A Unique Aussie Christmas

Listening to ‘Island Christmas’ by Christine Anu conjures up imagery of the beach, family time, and the truly unique nature of an Australian Christmas. We do things a little differently down in Oz compared to the rest of the world, here are few of those things to get you in the spirit;

Sun vs Snow
The only thing white about a White Christmas in Australia is the sand on the beach, or the tan-lines left across our feet from living in Havaiania’s for the past 3 months.

BBQ vs Roast
Who in their right mind could manage eating a big roast Turkey dinner on Christmas Day when it’s 32 degrees outside? Not us Aussies. It’s an outdoor BBQ or mountains of cold ham, cold chicken, and most importantly – PRAWNS; kilo’s of them, all day.

Inside vs Outside
In the garden or on the beach is where it’s at in Oz for Christmas. There’s no snuggling up by the fireplace, which at least makes for a less hazardous Christmas stocking hanging situation! Regular swims in the pool followed by an afternoon nap in the shade. Don’t forget to slip, slop and slap!

Family AND Friends
The one thing that we all do, no matter where we are from, is spend Christmas with our loved ones. It’s the perfect time of year to remind your friends and family how much you love them. It’s the only day of the year you get to see some members of your family, so make the most of it.
