With multiple Australian Country Chart #1 singles, a Golden Guitar, 2 CMC Awards and half a decade of touring under his belt, Troy Kemp is one of Australia’s most recognisable country music talents of this era.
As part of award winning duo McAlister Kemp, Troy achieved recognition and accolades both locally and internationally, headlining some of the nations biggest music festivals and has remained a mainstay in country radio and television charts over the past 5 years.
On the strength of their Top 10 ARIA charting debut album, “All Kinds Of Tough”, in 2010, McAlister Kemp went on to win the Golden Guitar at the 2011 Tamworth Country Music Awards for “Best New Talent”.
Two weeks later MK were invited to open an Australian Arena Tour with American Country Star Alan Jackson. The tour had Troy playing to packed houses at Rod Laver Arena, Allphones Arena and 3 consecutive, sold out nights at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
MK became a requested and very popular touring act across Australia and the next 4 years saw Troy playing country festivals like Tamworth CMF, Caboolture Urban, CMC Rocks, Mud Bulls and Music, Whittlesea, Harvest and the Deniliquin and Gympie Musters, just to name a few.
After an impressive performance at the 2013 CMC Rocks Festival, playing just before American Superstar Duo, Big & Rich, McAlister Kemp were invited by John Rich himself to perform at his personal residence in Nashville for a charity event to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. This led to MK being invited on tour with Big & Rich in the USA and Troy went on to opening shows to 30,000 people across 5 states.
McAlister Kemp continued to work hard and went on to release 2 more studio albums, “Country Proud” and “Harder to Tame”, that both boasted more #1 singles and sold out Australian Tours.
Every great project must run its course and with McAlister Kemp folding in March 2015 and with a goal to continue growing his profile in both Australia and overseas, Troy now embarks on the next stage of his journey as a solo artist.
Troy has just finished recording his debut solo album, “Against The Grain”, due to be released 4 December, and is riding high on the success of his first single, “How We Roll Around Here”, that recently climbed its way to the #1 spot on the Australian Top 40 Country Radio Charts.
About his brand new album Troy says, “Against the Grain is the result of a year and a half of writing and recording songs with my good friend and guitar virtuoso, Jeremy Barnes. We set out to write a bunch of country songs for an album that has a little bit of something for everyone. It has big rocking moments all the way down to heartfelt moments and we are proud of what we have achieved. We also embraced the challenge of producing the album and hope people enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
